Open Caskets

  • This service has been historically the most traditional way of honoring a life. It usually begins with a viewing or wake.
  • Calling hours are held at the funeral home
  • The loved on is either presented with an open or closed casket
  • A Service at a church is held the following day
  • A Processional is held to the cemetery usually with a hearse
  • A Grave site service is held at the cemetery.

In this and in all types of services, we encourage families to include memorabilia in the form of photos and videos and other cherished items of their loved one.. These can be displayed along with floral tributes. Acknowledgment cards and a memorial register are usually included.

We can assist in the immediate production of a video when you provide a series of photos.

We also encourage the playing of music both during calling hours and any part of the service. Favorite music of the loved one is encouraged. Live music is also available and welcomed.

If the loved one is a Veteran, we can arrange military honors and a recital of their distinctions and decorations.

Open or Closed Casket

If the family elects an open casket service, Washington Memorial is skilled in making the loved one look their very best. Even after an extended illness, the loved one is presented so well that the family and friends will be able to remember their loved on in their better days. The directors of the funeral home often receive thanks from grateful loved ones for helping them remember the loved one as they appeared before age and illness took their final toll.

It is possible to include any combination of these basic services or design a unique service.

Memorial Service

It is also possible to have a Memorial Service with or without any of the other services. For instance, you can hold a graveside service, and then plan a Memorial Service at a later, more convenient date, since a Memorial Service does not require that the body be present. It is also possible to simply hold a church service, with or without calling hours.

We are available to help plan every detail of the Memorial service, whether traditional, or a creative, personalized one.

We have the ability to help you create a tribute on video or DVD, if you provide photographs, video or other materials. We can also display any materials, including videos, that you would like to share.

We have a library of music that we can play during calling hours, and you can also bring in any favorites of the loved one. Live music is also available and welcomed.

If you opt for an open-casket service, we will ensure the best possible presentation.

Extreme attention to every detail of the funeral experience is our hallmark.
